PLEADING MY TIME

I have not been writing here for a long time. Been busy with work in particular and yes.. MMRB is up again. I’m trying to figure out a way of writing something constructive here as there isn’t really a point to show my works when I have a thing going on over there. I don’t really fancy writing what’s going on in my head. So… till I figure out something, check MMRB!

*Take note of how this post falls under a new category - Rants. Hah.

SHOW YOURSELF PT 1.5

Illustration of the fabulous & beautiful baby, Sally Zou for W+K’s inhouse project. Click here if you have no fucking clue what I’m on about.

P.S. On the other hand, please note the usage of 2 largely misinterpreted symbols are a Cross of St. Peter & an inverted Nazi swastika which is this respectively. So… there’s nothing brutal about the image but my rather apt representation of a misunderstood person. Nuff said.

W+K SHANGHAI WINDOWS

Designs for W+K Shanghai window panels. Fellow friends, Ellie & Driv covered the 4th & 3rd level while I worked on the 5th. Here’s an excerpt of the BS which came with the press release:

“谁说一定需要足够的场地来展示作品呢?我们早已找到了向公众展示W+K和中国本土优秀人才的绝佳空间——W+K上海办公室的玻璃幕墙。首次展览作品来自我们创意组的三位设计师,他们包办了办公室三层楼的窗贴设计,以此展现W+K的活力和精神。
三幅“巨作”以天堂、人间以及地狱命名,来听一下他们各自的独到见解吧。
《天堂》设计师—Morris Lee

Who says you need space to showcase artwork? Using our office window, we found a perfect canvas to display the talent of both WKers and local Chinese talents to the public. Our first exhibition deals with window stickers by 3 of our creative team that cover 3 floors of our office, to showcase W+K’s energy and spirit.
Divided into Heaven, Earth, and Underworld, here’s what each artist has to say about their work.
From Heaven: Morris Lee
A construction of elements drawn from what I felt is the perfect representation of W+K Shanghai’s heaven… Should there be one.
Basically I just mashed up eastern mythology stuff eg. the Hotei, pagodas along with some youth cultural icons like Daft Punk, the infamous Vox Phantom carried by Ian Curtis, vocal, references to RAGE against the machine, WII remote etc. And yeah there’s some portraits of people from the office.”

Positif - Mr Oizo
Sexy Results (MSTRKRFT remix) - DFA 1979
Let’s Make Love to DFF (SMD remix) - CSS
The One (The Black Ghost remix) - Trabant
Waters of Nazareth (Erol Alkan’s Durr Durr Durrrrrr Re-Edit) - Justice
Smack My Bitch Up - The Prodigy
Oh! - Boys Noize
Flat Beat (Computer Club remix) - Mr Oizo

& to go along with that, heres 2 vids of the Halloween VJ session that Francis and I did while Yaya is spinning. :D

JUICE 10TH ANNIVERSARY

JUICE Magazine will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary this November 27th at Zouk with the theme “Spectacular” and MMRB is one of the 10th artists including Asylum & Phunkstudio, invited to contribute a creative for one of their canvases, an A1-sized giant JUICE Cover, to be mounted and displayed at Zouk on the night of the event itself, as well as featured (in smaller dimension) in the January 2009 issue of JUICE. For more info, click here.

The artwork is based on a series of subcultural events that JUICE has gone through with the youths of Singapore and is a construction of elements drawn from different movements ranging from New Wave, Britpop to New Rave etc.
The central focus of the piece is the phrase ‘Fen Qing’ - Chinese for ‘Teenage Angst’, a term which describes the intense frustration and other related emotions of teenagers… which I sincerely believe is a primary influence on different genres of subcultures and the main driving force of JUICE during these ten years.

LOVE NOISE

Love Noise is a campaign organized by Converse to give Chinese rock a bigger platform and maybe an attempt to distract attention from the Olympics by taking two Beijing bands, PK-14 and Queen Sea Big Shark on a tour bus through six cities, beginning and ending in Beijing.

I created an illustration which was wrapped around the tour bus and additionally used as a focal piece on all of their campaign’s promo materials. Along the way, the bus will pick up local bands who will add on their own drawings or graffiti to my illustration alongside some of the local residents.

Interesting? Yes :)
